PostSubject: Paws instead of legs   Sun Aug 12, 2012 3:21 am

The small dog was curled up under one of the chairs standing outside the cafe. He had smartly chosen one that wasn't in the view of the people inside, and there was this one waitress that he knew had seen him, but she hadn't chased him away yet, so he decided he was quite safe.

Oliver had always liked being an animal more than human, seeing as he loved being able to see, and going back to the dark every time he switched back was nearly unbearable. But he did it, because no matter how much he loved being able to see, he wouldn't survive as an animal. He lacked the skill, the instincts and mostly the determination.

He moved his paw so it rested on top of his nose and rolled over onto his back so the sun was hot on his stomach. For right now, being a dog wasn't so bad.

Theo needed caffeine.

He was feeling pretty tired and the busy day wasn't helping. By lunch he was feeling dead on his feet, like a walking zombie or something. He folded his arms. Rhea had better like what she was getting for her birthday.

He set his bags down on a table and pulled out a seat when he noticed something that almost made him jump out of his skin. There was a dog curled up under the table.

He had definitely not been expecting that.

What was he supposed to do? Kick it out? Get a waitress? Either way the dog would be back outside where it belonged. But it looked kind of comfy where it was. Maybe it was supposed to be in here.

When his perfectly fine shadow suddenly disappeared and sun burned on his eyelids, Oliver's head shot up quickly, only to come face to face with someone he didn't recognize, of course he didn't, he didn't see many people. Maybe if the boy spoke he would recognize him, but Oliver doubted it.

For a moment, Oliver was scared the boy would turn him in. He didn't want that, he was perfectly content here. Being a dog made everything more simple, it made his mind more simple, and the simplest solution now was to just gain the boy's trust.

Oliver lifted his head and pressed his nose against the boy's hand, moving until it was resting on top of his head and then he stayed still. He looked at him with dark eyes and let his tongue hang from his mouth, panting slightly.

If Theo was completely honest, he wasn't a big fan of dogs. When he had been little one had bitten him and he had spent so long convinced that he had rabies (despite the fact that his parents assured him that the dog was not rabid and there was no way he could have contracted it) that he managed to terrify himself and convince himself that all dogs hated him. He had mostly gotten over this now. Only big dogs made him slightly afraid now, and this dog was by no means big. And it was kind of cute anyway.

It also seemed to be clever, and Theo had to laugh as it seemingly forced him to pet it. Giving it a scratch behind the ears, he grinned. "What you doing inside then, eh?" he asked softly, looking around. Was it supposed to be here? Well even if it wasn't, what harm was it doing?

Oliver felt content as the boy scratched him behind his ears. He rested his head on top of the boys knees, hoping that would get him more of that ear rubbing. Whenever he was an animal, the instincts of that animal took over slightly. Not enough to make him lose control, but enough to not make him feel embarrassed about acting like an animal. He could eat dog food as a dog and feel perfectly happy about it, even though it made him shudder a little when he turned back human, so he tried to avoid it.

Oliver barked, knowing that he couldn't really talk to answer the question. He resisted licking the boy's hand and just pressed his nose against the boy's hand again. He really hoped the boy wouldn't turn him in, he didn't want to leave his hiding place, he liked it there.
