family reunions

Kaylin looked up at the tower in slight awe, it was so tall, she had to crane her neck to be able to see it fully. Her reasons for being there were unknown to her as her Uncle Elijah had brought without actually being told.

"Why won't he tell me why he brought me here?" She thought to herself with a frown.

They had been walking into the building, taking up the elevator to the top floor when her uncle and the secretary that had been escorting them had used a key. She looked over at her uncle in the elevator when they were half way up, her fingers pulling on her shirt a little at how nervous she was. The doors slid open and a fountain was the first thing she saw when she stepped out of the elevator.

Glass doors were also there... everything was in glass. It was when she looked at everything carefully that she noticed a man in one of the offices.

Elijah had his niece, Kaylin, follow him to his brother's headquarters. His blue, green flecked eyes smiled but were serious. This was a serious matter he was heading in to, and she would need his firm support if she couldn't handle it. He led her inside, speaking quietly to the secretary and then taking an elevator up to the top.

He cleared his throat sharply, a habit that he was trying to break himself of, and was failing. When they reached the top, they stepped out into an overwhelmingly fancy place. He smiled wide when he saw his brother through the glass, looking at Kaylin and expecting her to smile too. He'd momentarily forgotten that she'd never known him.

It didn't take him long to notice that people were approaching his top floor. He heard the elevator, when it started to work a few stories down, and at this hour, he didn't expect anyone to be brave enough and step into his little crib. Well, for anyone else but Elijah, it would be fatal to do so.

His smile for his brother was radiant, almost ecstatic, especially when he noticed a girl with him. "Did you bring me a present, brother dear?" Kol asked, through a smile, looking to the child with a certain interest. "No, that's not it, she's far too young for your taste, but what a lovely girl. Who is she?"

When he stepped closer towards her, there was some kind of knowledge in her eyes, which he didn't like at all. He put his right hand underneath her chin and raised her head slightly, wondering where he saw those features before. "Have we met already, my little lady?" With a voice that expressed his boredom and caution, he asked the question. "I know I've seen you before at least."

Then he turned to his brother and forgot all about her. "What is this?" the Titan exclaimed to Elijah, filling the room with his angry tone. "Don't play games with me, brother dear."

She glanced between both her uncle and the strange man. A realization dawned upon her when she figured out that her Uncle Elijah and this man whom called her a girl - which she disliked - were brothers or perhaps just relatives that looked similar.

"I'm Kaylin," she answered quietly but firmly, "And I can answer for myself, thank you very much."

One of her biggest pet peeves, didn't matter if she had her introverted personality, was when people talked like if she wasn't in the room. It had always irked her and when it would happen, Kaylin felt like she grew a little taller and felt a little older and wiser.

The sophomore didn't move a bit when he had placed his hand under her chin and studying her. It actually scared her a bit but she wasn't going to let it falter and admit it to her uncle's relative that she could be weak. But Kaylin didn't say or even peep a word when the other had yelled and lost interest in her, she slowly had made her way behind her Uncle like an insignificant small child she often felt.

She had no father and her mother had abandoned her the moment Elijah had stepped into her life. Kay's heart beat raised slightly as she looked at both of them in anticipation, wanting to figure out what the hell was going on as much as the guy in front of her.

Elijah laughed, "Just a little bit, brother." He turned to Kaylin as she replied on her own, frowning and grimacing.

He looked back to his brother, rolling his eyes, "Calm your tone, you'll scare her away before you know who she is." He slowly added, "And how important she is."

He motioned to Kaylin, "Obviously, this is Kaylin. I raised her, like you, and I think you ought to know why." He smiled, "This is your daughter. And Kaylin, this is your father, Kol."

"Traces of attitude, I like that", he said more to his brother/son, that to this child who went into hiding behind her blonde protector. The situation became strange, even stranger than moments before, and his mood was deteriorating as he spoke. "Elijah...", he started, but his brother interrupted him.

When Elijah spoke, Kol had a flashback of some kind, remembering both of his childhood, and some of his past adult life, thinking about all of his children and how Kratos and Nike were his favorites. Nike...the one that betrayed him, and the one he cared for deeply, that he used to call his little firefly, big eyed, big mouthed mischief that he missed dearly.

Again his eyes fell on the girl, travelling through her face and observing her expressions, searching for something that'll hint him if he was right about this.

"She is my daughter, indeed", his response was sharp, but kinder. "She is your sister too, not in this life, but in the past one." Kol opened his arms and invited the child in. "Nike, come to me, your brother has brought you back into our happy family."

Kay stood there shocked. Words could not formulate in her head and she felt like someone had used her stomach as a punching bag as the air left her body and couldn't breath.

But unlike the obvious flashbacks recurring in the guys - her father's - face, Kaylin's eyes glazed over at the memories. She remembered him now, from when she was younger from an old and worn out picture her mother used to have and her old self. Her times as Nike, when she had spent countless of hours with him. Her time as a younger Kaylin, had been spent gazing on the blurry image of him and trying to figure out what she had done to scare him away.

She had blamed herself.

Kay blinked once. Twice. Three times before the glazed over expression left and she went back to the real world. She stepped away from Elijah, now confused whether to call him brother or uncle, as Kaylin took the few steps necessary to be in her father's arms.

She couldn't say the words out loud though. She felt like if she said father, she would break down and cry. Kaylin wasn't used to having a father in this life, unlike she had when she was Nike.

But she had betrayed him and her old self, including the new one, smiled as she had been accepted once more and hugged her father back.

Elijah smiled happily, crossing his arms over his chest. He'd finally reunited them and he felt much better. He didn't say anything more as he watched his sister-niece fall into her father's arms.

This was his family, and how a family was supposed to look. Happy, and with each other. He watched without a word as if he were a silent guardian of sorts, his smile still hanging on his lips.
